Cacao nibs are the raw, pure form of chocolate, usually made from crumbled bits of crushed cocoa beans. Both cacao nibs and chocolate bits may look similar, but they are actually quite different. Cacao nibs are the raw edible form of the least processed cocoa beans, whereas chocolate bits are manufactured from cocoa beans over the heating process and mixed with ingredients like cocoa butter, sugar, milk, etc. While sorting through the stocks at Tips & Titbits, our storekeeper Sabri was intrigued to find out the “bean-to-bar” concept adopted by a Malaysian homegrown producer Vive Snack. From plantation, de-shelling to the cracking process, Vive Snack is committed to be involved in every step of the craftsmanship to ensure quality products. Aside from managing daily orders at Tips & Titbits warehouse, Sabri is happy to help out with the tasting of sample snacks from different suppliers. Though not a chocolate fan, Sabri confessed Vive Snack Super Cacao Nibs particularly leaves a deep impression on him. “It was sweet at first, followed by a little bit of sourish after-taste. But after all, the bitter taste of natural chocolate is the strongest. Unlike the usual chocolate, it does not make me feel ‘jelak’ (Malay word referring to the sick feeling after eating too much of something).” he expressed. Sabri described Vive Snack Super Cacao Nibs to be grainy in texture, making it very different from the smooth texture we found in chocolate. He would love to buy it for his wife and friends to try.
